The Nanking Massacre

  • 3.6
An uncompromising portrayal of the war crimes perpetrated by the Japanese Imperial Army upon the Chinese military and civilian population of Nanking during the occupation of the city. Hailed by critics as one of the most disturbing films ever released, BLACK SUN: THE NANKING MASSACRE is unflinching in it's depiction of the barbaric cruelty with which the occupying army raped, pillaged and terrorized the defeated populace.

Harrowing. This is the fourth movie I've seen on the Rape of Nanking, & familiarity doesn't make it any easier to watch. The extensive use of documentary film here adds to the reality of this bitter atrocity. Films like this should be shown in every high school in America, along with study of the nature of racism, fascism & war. (It will never happen of course, now that Japan, like Germany, is our beloved ally, & the US goes on nurturing a fascist resurgence in Eastern Europe.)

Thought provoking and wrenching movie! Japan should apologize until

the end of time.

It's an odd 'schockumentary'. An angry Salo-esque treatment of the massacre of the people of Nanking by Japan's military. But in a clumsy low budget manner, to the point that it almost could be featured on MST3K. There's some effective scene work (and gory in-camera special effects) in here, but the total is a messy tiring diatribe.

One word to describe this movie. Horrifying. Just completely horrifying, but I couldn't help myself to look away.

Very well done

Simply disturbing, very entertaining.
